Mistra invests in research that is of strategic importance for a healthy living environment and for sustainable development. The research is intended to contribute to Sweden’s future competitiveness.Mistra has approximately 15 ongoing research programmes, of which two involve support for Centres of Excellence. The programmes run for six to eight years each, and in some cases longer. About 400 researchers are involved in Mistra-financed research, which is carried out in universities, colleges, research institutes and private companies in Sweden and abroad.
Mistra programmes contribute to solving important environmental problems. Therefore, the researchers attached to the programmes work in continuous and close dialogue with practitioners from Swedish companies, government agencies, policy makers, international policy negotiators and non-government organisations, with the aim of ensuring that their research results are useful and used for achieving sustainable development. Approximately 30 large and small companies and organisations are directly connected to Mistra’s research. Examples include: SCA, Volvo AstraZeneca, H&M, Stora, I-Tech and Myrorna. Researchers from a range of disciplines collaborate in the programmes.
